this might also be the reason for a failing CI. though from the outside, it is unclear whether the CI is active at all. regardless, there are no job artifacts (https://git.imp.fu-berlin.de/agse/thesis-template/-/jobs/artifacts/main/raw/thesis.pdf?job=compile-thesis).

The CI did not fail, it did not run. It was not configured for merge requests.

The workdir was indeed changed (https://github.com/dante-ev/docker-texlive/commit/f997b25822904726f33fc0025c604c170f401433#diff-dd2c0eb6ea5cfc6c4bd4eac30934e2d5746747af48fef6da689e85b752f39557R85). Thanks for the fix!
